Match Report

09/06/2002 v MONTROSE

abandoned

The match at Bexley Hospital started off in mild drizzle, and Clive and Steve opened. Steve showed aggressive intent from the word go, and was extremely unlucky to be caught at mid on from a very hard hit drive. Neil priddy and Clive made slow progress in conditoins favouring the bowlers. The 5 a-side football tournament going on at the same time did not help, as there were frequent interruptions due to players and their children walking on the pitch.

Neil and Clive did well to see off the opening bowlers and then began to move the score along nicely, Clive taking a particular liking to the slow bowler. Chris Beard came in after Clive was trapped by a ball that didn’t bounce in front of the stumps.

Chris and Neil made good progress, but the rained became much heavier and an early tea was taken. Conditions became farcical after the resumption, Chris finding it difficult to maintain his footing in the crease. Richard declared, and following consultation with some Bexely Hospital players, the match was called off because of the damage being done to the pitch. Montrose skipper not happy at all !!!

Poor co-ordination of tea meant far too many cheese and cucumber sandwiches.
