26/06/2011 v Whitstable Labour Club

lost

narrow defeat at Whitstable

Old Dartechs lost a low scoring game at Whitstable Labour club, after looking in control at various stages of the match

James opened the bolwing with a good hostile spell, which was followed up by a very clever one by Charlie. Neither however got the wickets they deserved. Bob was steady from the other end and Stuart came on to take some vital wickets. At 101 for 8 it looked as if we would skittle out Whitstable for a really low score, but they managed to swing the bat to good effect at the last. Mention must go tou Pete's young Australian cousin, who fielded with great maturity and took an excellent catch.

Clive and Sean opened the batting, and although Sean went to a fine delivery which pitched on middle and took top of off, with Tim's help the score moved on to 47 for 1. Clive retired at this point, victim of the really hot day, and scoring dried up a bit . Jason was given out LBW (somewhat controversially ) and Tim seemed to lose strike and lost momentum. A middle order collapse was only punctuated by a brief cameo from Charlie, and Clive had to go back in with still 35 required. With a few overs to go, Clive and Bob attempted to play for the draw, but Bob was plumb in front to the first ball of the last over.

Tea was OK, but I must mention that when I was fielding out in the deep , bathed in sunshine and 32oC of heat, heaven was one of the Whitstable players coming over and offering me strawberries, lovely !
